THE DAILY TEXAN - THURSDAY NOVEMBER 5.
THE COST OF YOUR SHOES
My news of choice it’s about one simple question “How much is it your shoes? , and so many people answer “only 30 or 35 dollars” but this is not true. To make one shoes the industries takes a lot of materials and resources to make that shoes, for example, electricity, work time, materials and more, and all this things have a cost for de planet. The columnist wants’ to tell the readers how its important think in the different cost that have our life styles because when the people go to the stores never think in the real cost to use the shoes, cell phones, computers and all the other thinks that we buy to maintenance our moderns life’s. Don´t forget our planet “The World Wild Life Fund´s living Planet Report states that we will require two Earth’s worth of resources by 2030 in order to sustain our current lifestyles…..” Think about it, in your next shopping.

ReplyDeleteI concern about our planet and our environment. Recetly I read a book "The world without us". During reading your news and reantion, I remind that book. That book is a non-fiction book about what would happen to the natural and built environment if humans suddenly disappeared, written by American journalist Alan Weisman.

Wow, by 2030? Many people get worried over which "green" shopping bag to use, or which food is most organic, etc. These things are important. But your article and reaction summarize a bigger point. "The cost of our lifestyles" is huge. Yousun, my husband read "The World Without Us" - he said it was very, very fascinating.
ReplyDeleteOne other point: Has anybody seen "Hotel Rawanda"? It's about the genocide there, and it's a very popular Hollywood film.
Anyway, after I watched it and I thought of all the people in the world that don't even have water to drink, I started taking shorter showers! Our lifestyles are SO different (in developed and developing countries) that it is difficult to understand how we live this way.
